There is only one ground for divorce and that is if either you or your spouse believes that your marriage has "irretrievably broken down". This can be evidenced by many reasons; no doubt we will explain each ground and advise which is the most appropriate reason to give to the court.
If this is not the case then alternatives should be considered.
Divorce in English Law can only be achieved through the Courts. When proceedings have finished you will be given a document known as a Decree Absolute. This confirms the end of your marriage. This document should be kept in a safe place as if you wish to remarry in the future you will require this document as proof of your divorce.
We will advise you on the most appropriate way, in your particular circumstances, to commence the proceedings. We will prepare the necessary paperwork and guide you through the court process.
It takes about 6-9 months to obtain a Decree Absolute. This is an estimate and much will depend upon your circumstances and the court in which you start the proceedings.
